New tech progress
Even though version 0.1 was intended to be light on content and was supposed to use some systems on a temporary basis. After all, I’m building it without a game engine
However, in the end, I’ve been refactoring the game lately, and now it’s in excellent technical shape! I’ve also turned the framework into a game engine by creating various editors, such as a scene editor.
What does all this mean for the game?
1 - Architecture and optimization. I’ve put a lot of work into the game’s architecture and optimization, and I’ve done everything to ensure that further development proceeds smoothly. Ultimately, this game is planned to be a fairly large “Slice of Life” title.
2 - Modding. I designed the architecture to support full modding and built an in-game engine. Of course, I’ll provide access to modding in later versions, since in the early ones you won’t fully understand what kind of game I’m making by early versions. However, I’ll explain modding in advance. First, it’s fully moddable, which means you’ll be able to write your own c# scripts and modify any part of the game. In addition, I’ve implemented a component-based system similar to Unity’s, meaning that in the scene editor, you can change component properties and add your own components to objects, writing using c#. Although I haven’t had time to finish all the editors yet, by the time I release the update with modding support, you’ll have access to all the tools I have available.
3 - I improved the rendering. In addition to sprites, I implemented text rendering with the ability to apply various effects and even embed sprites within the text. This is still the first version; there are a couple of things I want to improve in the future, such as optimizing caching to the graphics card to reduce the load on the CPU. It can be used anywhere in the game, such as in the dialogue system or for various visual hints.
4 - I’ve improved the interface system, making it dynamic and customizable, and added many formatting options to help with its use. It’s used in both the editors and the game itself; here’s an example of one of the windows.
In addition, here’s a small sprite from one of the scenes
(As you can see, my drawings are still just as simple, but they're still better than when I couldn't draw at all.)
Thank you for continuing to follow my progress! Even though the game isn’t being developed as quickly as I’d like. But I'm doing everything I can to make this game great!
