「あ、私そろそろ行かなきゃ」
ハンバーガーをかじりながら鮎原は何かを思い出したように時計を見つめた。
「何か用事でもあるの？よかったらこの後映画でも一緒にと思ってたんだけど」
空手部の一件以来、鮎原に好意を寄せていた俺たちは、折角立てていたデートの計画が駄目になりそうで慌てた。
鮎原は片手を立てて申し訳なさそうに舌を出す。
「この後レスリング部の助っ人に行かなきゃいけないんだ」
彼女はまた助っ人に駆り出されたらしい。
しかもうちの高校のレスリング部は男子しかない。
空手部の時と全く同じシチュエーションだ。
「助っ人って、どこが相手？まさかまた下須工（げすこう）の連中じゃないだろうね？」
嫌な予感がして問い詰める俺等に鮎原は首を振って笑った。
「違うよ。確か糟那（かすな）高校とかいってたよ。強いらしいから楽しみなんだ」
彼女の返答に俺たちは顔を見合わせた。糟那高校といえば、下須工と並び立つ悪名高いヤンキー高校である。
「カ、カス高レスリング部と勝負するの？どこで？」
俺たちが青ざめているのに、鮎原は涼しい顔だ。
「確か、糟那高校のレスリング場だよ。勝負じゃないよ、合同練習なんだってさ。私は人数が足りないから数合わせで行くだけだよ」
じゃ、私行くから！
とハンバーガーを完食してから彼女は去っていった。
悪名高いヤンキー高校と男女混合レスリング…
俺たちはそこで起こる出来事に妄想を巡らせずにはいられなかった。
“Oh, I have to get going soon.”
As she took a bite of her hamburger, Ayuhara glanced at her watch as if she’d just remembered something.
“Do you have something to do? I was actually thinking we could catch a movie together after this, if you’re up for it.”
Ever since the incident with the karate club, we’d all had a crush on Ayuhara, so we panicked at the thought that the date we’d finally managed to plan might fall through.
Ayuhara held up one hand and stuck out her tongue apologetically.
“I have to go help out the wrestling team after this.”
It seemed she’d been called upon to help out again.
What’s more, our high school’s wrestling team is all boys.
It was exactly the same situation as with the karate club.
“Help out? Who are you up against? You’re not telling me it’s those guys from Gesuko again, are you?”
Sensing something was off, we pressed her for details, but Ayuhara just shook her head and laughed.
“No, it’s not them. I think they said Kasuna High School or something. I hear they’re strong, so I’m actually looking forward to it.”
Hearing her reply, we exchanged glances. Kasuna High School was, after all, a notoriously rough-and-tumble school, right up there with Gesuko High.
“A-are you going to wrestle against the Kasuna High wrestling team? Where?”
While we were turning pale, Ayuhara remained completely unfazed.
“I think it’s at Kasuna High’s wrestling gym. It’s not a match, though—apparently it’s just a joint practice. I’m just going to make up the numbers since we’re short on people.”
“Well, I’m off then!”
With that, she finished her hamburger and walked away.
A mixed-gender wrestling practice at a notorious delinquent high school…
We couldn’t help but let our imaginations run wild about what might happen there.
