師匠とバレンタインデー Valentine's Day with Master
一人稽古を終えた僕は息を切らせながら庭に出た。
「サボらずにちゃんと稽古していたようだな。感心感心！」
機嫌のいい声に振り返ると、スポーツジムの仕事から帰ってきた師匠が庭に降りてくるところだった。
「僕は師匠に師事してから一人稽古をサボった事ないですよ？」
「そうか？ならその愚直さは褒めてやってもよい。」
珍しく僕を褒めてくれた師匠は赤いハート型の箱を手の中で弄んでいる。
「師匠…それは？」
「チョコレートだ。今日はバレンタインデーだからな。」
「え？バレンタインデー？つまりそれは…、僕への…？！」
一瞬期待した僕を師匠は鼻で笑う。
「バカタレ、なんで私がお前にやらねばならんのだ。これはスイミングの生徒からもらったのだ。『先生！好きです！』と真顔で告白されてしまったぞ。」

「そうじゃ。真っ赤になってとても可愛かった。」
師匠は女の子にもモテるらしい。
「師匠も旦那さんにチョコレートをあげるんですか？」
師匠をからかうつもりで僕はそう尋ねた。
すると師匠は、ふと空へ遠い視線を向ける。
「そうだな…来年はあげられるとよいな。」
少し寂しそうな師匠の横顔を見て僕はハッとした。
そうだった。師匠は大好きな旦那さんとの新婚旅行を中止してまで僕のためにこの道場へ来てくれたんだった。
僕は一刻も早く一人前にならなければならないんだ…
でも…僕が一人前になったら、師匠は…やっぱり旦那さんの所に帰っちゃうんだよな…
「お前も早く女の子からチョコレートをもらえるくらいの立派な男になることだ。」
